Qur'anic verses - The prayer of Abraham:

The Prayer of Abraham, as introduced in this place, shows the universal nature of the True Faith and the burden that the Sacred House bears as a global House of worship for all mankind.

These Prayers are spoken on behalf of his progeny with a special reference to the elder branch, the children of Isma'il since the Sacred House was also a house of residence for Abraham's wife, Hagar, and the elder son, Isma'il.

The Makkan valley is enclosed by hills on all sides. It is an isolated valley without cultivation and a centre for Prayer and Praise.

In his appeal, Abraham made a clear reference to both branches of his family, the sons of Isma'il and Isaac. The younger son's progeny (that of Isaac) developed the Faith of Israel and that of Christ; the elder son's progeny perfected the more universal Faith of Islam, the Faith of Abraham.

Having Prayed for his progeny, Abraham now prays for God's grace on himself, his parents, and the whole brotherhood of Faith. Although Abraham's father was an idolater. Not only that, but he persecuted Abraham and threatened him with stoning and exile.
