Continuing the allegory, the moon, although looking bigger and brighter than a distant star, turns out on closer knowledge, not only to set like the star, but to change in shape from hour to hour and even reflects light rather than being a source of light. The next stage in the allegory was the sun. Its size and brightness are unmistakable to the naked eye. Its rays spread over our planet. But is it the biggest or the only one in this universe? Is it unique in any sense or has it power over other stars? Could it be a god of our earth besides thousands of other bigger and brighter gods in this expanse universe? | |
