Qur'anic verses - The creation of Adam:

It would seem that the angels in their one-sidedness saw only the mischief consequent on the misuse of the emotional nature by man. If man was to be endued with emotions, those emotions could lead him to the highest and drag him to the lowest. The question the angels raised reflects that only God knows all causes and reasons. The perfect vicegerent is he who has the power of initiative himself, but whose independent action always reflects the will of his principal. |

These passages are charged
with mystic meaning. The particular qualities or feelings which were outside
the nature of angels were put by God into the nature of man. Man was thus able
to learn the 'names of things' and the inner nature and qualities of things
including feelings. And, Adam told the angels what he learnt and the angels
acknowledged this. This knowledge and the ability of learning entitle man to
claim the office of vicegerent on earth. Those who are still in search for the origin of man and the lost ring between the man and the apes they should divert their efforts to what is true and achievable. Adam is the ancestor of all mankind. God created Adam in a perfect shape and equipped him with facilities to be his vicegerent on earth. |

'Iblis', who was one of the 'Jinn', was included together with the angels to obey God's command to bow down to Adam. Iblis was a haughty lot to consider Adam inferior to him. And since, Iblis (the Satan) excites enmity and hatred among all mankind. |
