Matthew 21:43
(Jesus said): "Therefore I tell you that the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit."
The Children of Israel should realise that a covenant with God has to be fulfilled by two parties. God has fulfilled his part, but did they equally fulfil their part? If this was the case, why would Jesus warn them with dispossession of the Kingdom of God on earth as a consequence of their shortfall. The Children of Israel would not listen to Jesus' warning and their priests tempted to arrest him.
When the chief priests and the Pharisees(*) heard Jesus' parables, they knew he was talking about them. They looked for a way to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowd because the people held that he was a prophet.
(*) Pharisee: A member of a sect within Judaism between the second century BC and the time of Jesus who observed strictly the tradition of the elders as well as the written Mosaic law as they interpreted it. The Pharisees were known for their immoderation, and in Luke, Jesus described them as hypocrites.
