Qur'anic verses - Mountains:

It is interesting to notice that the 'Mountains' are described here as 'Pegs'. Pegs are rooted into the ground firmly to provide fixity and so the mountains have roots to provide stability to the ground beneath us. In another Qur'anic verse [S.79: v.32], God said: "And the mountains hath He firmly fixed." Today, we know that the Earth's crust is fractured by faults into plates that float on molten magma. With the earth's rotation around its own axis, these floating plates would have been rapidly moving had it not been for the stabilising influence of mountains. No soil could have accumulated, no water could have been stored in the soil, no plants could have germinated, no roads constructed, no houses could have been built , and life would have been impossible on our planet. God said:

And We have set on the earth Mountains standing firm, lest it should shake with them.
[Qur'an
21:31]

In 1855, G.B. Airy, British Scientist, suggested that mountains behave like blocks of wood floating in water. The higher they are above the surface, the deeper they must be below it. Modern research shows that the continental crust is far thicker in mountains areas that in flat regions and that mountains have deep roots stretching down into the mantle.

If this Qur'an was not a revelation from God, it would not be possible for any human to give such a precise description of mountains during the 7th century AD where earth science had not developed yet.

God said:

It is He Who has made the earth manageable for you, so traverse ye through its tracts and enjoy of the sustenance which He furnishes.
[Qur'an
67:15]
