The Qur'an confirms the fact that Elias was a Prophet of God. But, no reference was made to the actual theatre of events, nor the time of his mission. Thus, the history of Elias and his people is subjected to speculation.
It is believed that Elias is the same as Elijah, who was a Prophet living in the reign of Ahab and Ahaziah, kings of Israel (B.C. 896-872). According to the First Book of the KINGS (Chapter 18) of the Old Testament, Elias was sent to meet Ahab, king of northern Israel who indulged in the worship of the alleged god, Baal.
The Qur'an has mentioned Elias with the honour that is only befitting to the chosen servants of God among the prophets, peace be upon them;
"Peace and salutation to such as Elias!" Thus indeed do We reward those who do right.
For he was one of Our believing Servants.
