Qur'anic verses - Prohibited food:

Unlike the permissible diet, the prohibition is made specific in light of the Holy Book and the teaching of His Messenger. The prohibition of certain food and drink is not arbitrarily declared by any means. It is first and foremost a Divine intervention in the best interest of the human being. All that is bad, impure and harmful are made unlawful for wise and moral reasons. The reasons behind this Divine intervention are numerous.
The following Qur'anic verse verifies further kinds of prohibited food:
that which hath been killed by
strangling, or by a violent blow, or by a headlong fall, or by being gored to
death; that which hath been (partly) eaten by a wild animal; unless ye are able
to slaughter it (in due form); that which is sacrificed on stone (altars);
(forbidden) also is the division (of meat) by raffling with arrows: that is
impiety.
[Qur'an 5:3]
According to the direct teaching of God's Messenger, the animals with claws, including all predators, are made unlawful for our diet. The livestock that are fed on filth and waste is made unlawful too, unless it is left in natural pastures. In modern times, when cattle are fed meat to increase productivity, Mad Cow Disease, spread among cattle and to the human being, the higher level in the food chain, in the form of CJD causing devastating physical and economical losses.
