Qur'anic verses - Say not "Trinity":

Trinity is the belief that in the one God there are three Divine Persons-- the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. This formulation of Trinity had emerged during the general councils of Nicaea in 325 AD and Constantinople in 381 AD who declared that the Son is of the same essence as the Father, and that the three Persons are one God. But, why did this conclusion come to light only after three centuries from the time of Jesus? Why would not any of Jesus' disciples or their contemporaneous reach a similar verdict during the lifetime of Jesus to prevent confusion or speculation at later stage?

How could it possible for the Holy Ghost to be a third entity in this Trinity and at the same time, he is God's spirit? However, if this was the case, was the Holy Ghost created in a similar manner to that of the Son, or created by the Son? If it is the later, as suggested by some sectarians, how would God's spirit proceed from the Son, who was brought into being by whom the Holy Spirit belongs to? Does this lead to the conclusion that God created Son, and Son created God's spirit? Or, if they are three persons in one, was then God incomplete before creating the Son? If this was the case, who was managing the creation of the heavens and earth, and the entire universe before the Son came to existence to complement the existing God?

This Qur'anic verse removes all obscurities and explains the status of Jesus in plain truth without confusion, and highlights his attributes as being: (1) the son of a woman, Mary, and therefore a man; (2) an apostle, a man with a mission from God, and therefore entitled to honour; (3) a Word bestowed on Mary, for he was created by God's Word "Be" and he was; (4) a spirit proceeding from God, but not God. God is independent of all needs and has no need of a son or partner.

The doctrines of Trinity were not only rejected by the later religion, Islam, but also by various early Christian groups. For instance, Arius, who was a priest of Alexandria in the early 4th century AD, believed that Christ is not of the same essence as God. Arius and his followers rejected the doctrine that the three Persons of the Christian Trinity --the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit-- were equal. Arius taught that Jesus was created by God and was inferior to Him. Arian teachings remained active and received continuous support until the raise of Islam in the 7th century AD.

They do blaspheme who say: God is one of three in a Trinity: for there is no god except One God. If they desist not from their word (of blasphemy), verily a grievous penalty will befall the blasphemers among them.
