Qur'anic verses - Hardship and Patience:

Job, or Ayyub in the Qur'an, descended from the lineage of Isaac, the younger brother of Ishmael, the sons of Abraham, peace be upon all of them.

Job was a prosperous man, with faith in God, who suffered a number of calamities: He lost his family, crushed under his roof, and all of his wealth. Further, he suffered long illness in the shape of loathsome sores covering all of his body. Job held to his faith in God and he became the icon of humility, patience, and faith in God. God listened to Job's prayer and removed his distress.
