Qur'anic verses - Lut and the people of Sodom:

The mission of Lut, peace be upon him, was to call upon his people not to indulge in sexual perversion. The males descended so low as to practise their lusts on male partners. God has made his creation in perfect balance and knows their needs. Humans might jeopardise this balance in many ways with ignorance or misunderstanding. Here comes the importance of abiding by the divine teaching and not to deviate from God's instructions. Man can not always predict what might happen in case of violating a law of nature, and sometimes the consequences can be devastating to a large sector of the society. In modern times, scientists stood helplessly facing a tiny, but mighty, virus taking people's life. This virus, which is caused by wrong sexual practices, can be transmitted to innocent people and even new born children.

With arrogance, they rejected Lut's call and charged him and his followers with Purity. The charge was in fact a reflection of their impurity and straying from the right. In addition, they unjustly exercised their power against the righteous ones by driving them out of their homes. In many of today's societies, alternative approach is followed when pure and clean people are shadowed by impure ones; sexual perversions are normalized under the name of freedom; state of honours and dignities are given to those 'icons' who have no Godfearing and profane God's teaching by pursuing their perversion.

This Qur'anic verse draws a dividing line between two categories of people in one close community; 'Believers' and 'non-Believers.' This exhibits the unique nature of the tie of faith whereby other worldly ties are banished, as in case of Lut's wife whom was left behind among the ones who lost most. Another implication of this that all who had been saved by God were clean and pure, not wicked or sinful people as the narrators of the Old Testament might suggest in case of Lut's duaghters. In Genesis 19:31-38, it is mentioned that Lut's daughters made their father drunk to preserve his seeds. Simply, if this was true Lut's duaghters would not be among the ones that God saved, but they would be lagged behind with their mother.

Lut did warn his people in God's Punishment but they ignored his warning:

"And (Lut) did warn them of Our Punishment, but they disputed about the Warning."
[Qur'an
54:36]

Then God destroyed those who rejected the call of Purity. It was a horrifying end; a Punishment from heaven:

"So taste ye My Wrath and My Warning."
[Qur'an
54:39]
