Qur'anic verses - The Birth of Mary:
|
|
Mary was the mother of Jesus. She is also known as the Virgin Mary. By tradition Mary's mother was called Hannah (in English, Anne) and she is a decedent of the priestly house of Imran, the father of Prophet Aaron. Mary's birth was a miracle since both her mother and father were of old age. |

The mother
of Mary expected a male child. Was she disappointed that it was a female child?
According to the previous Qur'anic verse, the answer is 'No', for she had Faith,
and she knew that God's Plan was better than any wishes of hers: "O my Lord! I do dedicate unto Thee what is in my womb for Thy special service." |

God had
accepted Hanna's prayer and Mary grew under God's protection. Prophet Zakariya (in English, Zechariah) was related to Mary's parents since his wife Elisabeth, the mother of John the Baptist, was a kinswoman of Mary. Zakariya became the guardian of Mary. |
