Qur'anic verses - The Seal of the Prophets:

In this Qur'anic verse, there are three dogmatic issues: (1) Muhammad would not have a progeny through adoption or male born children, (2) he was a Messenger of God, (3) his prophecy is the last of all prophecies.
The context of the preceded verses refers to Muhammad's adoption to a child. His adoption was regarded as 'guardianship' rather than 'parental adoption' as defined by some societies of today. In addition, all Muhammad's sons died young in his life time; none survived to adulthood to claim prophecy or any other holy status.
Muhammad was a Prophet and Messenger as he received God's Book, the Qur'an, through revelation, likewise with Moses and Jesus, peace be upon them.
He was the last of all prophets and there should be no other explanation to the word 'Seal.' When a document is sealed, it is complete, and there can be no further addition. The holy Prophet Muhammad is the last of all God's prophets and messengers there has been and will be no Prophet or Messenger after Muhammad. When Jesus comes again, he will judge and rule by Islam, which is the submission to the Will of God.
The Religion before God is Islam (submission to His Will): Nor did the People of
the Book dissent therefrom except through envy of each other, after knowledge had
come to them.
[Qur'an 3:19]
