Qur'anic verses - Pharaoh's lofty palace:

Pharaoh's materialism blocked his mind from thinking rationally. He thought that building a palace or a tower would enable him to reach the heavens and to know the God of Moses. What Pharaoh was doing is no difference than that of throwing a little stone into the oceans in a hope to detect a raise in the oceans' level with the naked eye.

His arrogance and egotism had led to accuse God's messenger, Moses, as a liar. Pharaoh's plots turned against him and gained nothing but utter destruction.
