Solomon (10th century BC):

Solomon was the third king of ancient Israel. He ruled for 40 years until mid of the 10th century B.C. Solomon was the son of King David and his heir. Both David and his son Solomon were Prophets of God and rulers of the Kingdom of Israel. Solomon inherited a large kingdom and had ruled this extensive kingdom, apparently without using military force. Solomon played a unique role in the history of Israel.

We gave (in the past) knowledge to David and Solomon. And they both said: "Praise be to God , Who has favoured us above many of His servants who believe!"

[Qur'an: 27:15]

Solomon was known for his administrative skills in running his kingdom with diplomacy and wisdom. Solomon built the first Temple in Jerusalem and other great buildings. According to the Qur'an, Queen of Sheba visited Solomon in his great Palace and she was amazed with its splendour. These magnificent structures reflect the prosperity of Israel at that time.

She was asked to enter the lofty Palace: but when she saw it, she thought it was a lake of water, and she (tucked up her skirts), uncovering her legs. He said: "This is but a palace paved smooth with slabs of glass." She said: "O my Lord! I have indeed wronged my soul: I do (now) submit with Solomon, to the Lord of the Worlds."

[Qur'an: 27:44]
