Yusuf Ali, Abdullah (1872-?):
Born in Bombay, India to a rich family. His father was a merchant.
Since his childhood Yusuf Ali was receiving religious education
and eventually he completed the study and recitation of the whole
Qur'an by heart. Besides his native language, he gained mastery
in Arabic, the language of the Qur'an, and the English.
Yusuf Ali studied the English literature and the translations of
the Holy Book and had visited several European countries for this
purpose. Later he devoted himself to study the Qur'an and the
commentaries that were written since the early period of Islamic
era. He completed the work of Interpretation in Lahore on the 4th
of April 1937.
The translations of the Qur'an into English by Yusuf Ali is
regarded as the world's best translations ever written in English.
