Zakariya prayed for no ordinary son. Seeing the growth of the mystic girl Mary under his guardianship, he prayed for some mystic child from God. A progeny that is pure to carry the message of God in a time when the Israelites were corrupted. To his surprise, he was given a son, Yahya known in the Bible as John the Baptist. The Arabic form Yahya suggests "Life".

John led a solitary life, and was ranked among the Preachers of Truth until the tragic end of his life by the hand of the tyrants, the rulers of Judea.
